Idemitsu Lube (Singapore) Pte Ltd was conducting a drive away event from Singapore to Genting Highlands that was held on 12th June 2009 until 14th June 2009.

The drive away aptly titled the Extreme Series Motor Lubricants Eco-Friendly Drive 2009 was specifically developed to prove Idemitsu's Extreme Series of engine oils to be environmentally friendly while at the same time improving vehicular performance,enhancing engine protection and giving maximum fuel economy.

The idea of the drive away was to determine the mileage traveled based against the amount of fuel used while a car is running on the Idemitsu Extreme Eco 5W30 SM/CF Fully Synthetic Gasoline Engine Oil.

Six cars were used in the experiment; three of the cars were filled with idemitsu Fully Synthetic Engine Oils: Extreme Pro 10W50 SM/CF,Extreme Touring 5W40 SM/CF and Extreme Eco 5W30 SM/CF and remaining three were filled up with competitor brands.

To ensure a level playing field or favoritism,Idemitsu invited six independent drivers to drive the cars and have them changed at stipulated location so that every driver's driving habits and styles are evenly distributed throughout all the cars.

The drivers were not told what engine oil or brand the car was using,feedback would then be collected on the driver's impression purely from just driving the car to prevent any biasness.

During the test,everyone picked Car EC3 (which ws filled up with Extreme Eco 5W30 SM/CF) as they felt was the most responsive to drive.

Be it acceleration,outright speed or fuel economy,Extreme Eco 5W30 was substantially better than the rest of the cars. It was also a lot quieter especially under heavy acceleration up the steep inclination of Genting Highlands.

At the end of the journey,the mileage and records were collected which was taken down by the co-drivers. The mileage and records were tabulated and the results were calculated.

based on the result,Idemitsu Extreme Eco 5W30 SM/CF achieved the best mileage for the amount used with a record of 14.21 km/l on average,and neither of the competitor brand engine oil came even close to this reading.
